Variety approved a total of eight swings this year at a value of $180,000 at the following locations:

City of Hobson’s Bay
Glenallen School, Glen Waverley
Mildura Rural City Council
Rotary Club of Frankston
Surf Coast Council Torquay
Wellington Shire Council
Plus our first Mobile Swing

At each official opening of a swing I have walked away a better person knowing that the Variety Liberty Swing had just given a child a gift they never received before; the opportunity to have a ride on a swing, something that so many of us take for granted.

One of the biggest achievements this year has been the arrival of the world’s first mobile Variety Liberty Swing. This swing will enable Variety Victoria to transport the swing easily to any public gathering and major event for the children, including the annual Children’s Christmas Party, all Bash starts, race days and generally all fund raising events that Variety is involved with. We hope that other Australian Variety offices will follow our lead and see the importance of having such a wonderful mobile swing that can reach out to the community purely by being transported and assembled within one hour.

On a personal note, without the drive and enthusiasm of Diane James and her vision for the Variety Liberty Swing, Variety Victoria would not have been able to achieve the sponsorships and community acceptance for the number of swings installed to date.
